Sower has developed an automated quality index to help assess ABAP code. The Sower Quality System index (SQSI) ranges form 0 to 100 and is proving uncannily accurate at distinguishing between well and poorly written code. Technical director Peter Chapman said “Code reviews are time consuming and subjective, and can be overlooked when the pressure is on to meet a deadline. Even experienced developers take short cuts when governance is weak. SQSI is an objective measure that can be mandated into the release process to ensure substandard code never reaches your production environment.”
SQSI is now a standard inclusion in Sower’s Development Environment Survey (DES), calculated for all custom developed code to help identify prioirty areas for review. The index measures consistency and readability and is not dependent on particular naming conventions.
